Rotor will not start, "I3 imbalance" message

Rotor starts and stops almost instantly with a display that says "I3 Imbalance". The centrifuge is a Beckman Coulter Allegra X-12 Series.

Are you sure the instrument displays I3, not L3? There is no I3 imbalance error on the X12, according to the service manual. L3 indicates that the right hand striker is not in place.

It must be L3 imbalance error, how do I put the right hand striker back in place?

1. The bolts (2) that hold the latch up may be loose. 2. The striker might be loose and has backed up into the lid. 3. The microswitch(s) on the latch may not be making. #1 and #3 are the most prevelent problems with the X12 latch.
