Maintenance Matters: Centrifuges

Wiping the centrifuge down after each use to prevent contamination, ensuring there is enough space around the unit for proper venting, and looking after the rotor are especially critical, according to manufacturers.

“It’s extremely important that the user keeps an eye on the status of the rotor, maintains it properly, cleans it, and prevents aggressive chemicals from getting in,” says Maurizio Merli, global product manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “A rotor which is not properly maintained is a rotor that could explode and can cause damage to the unit and potentially … to the people around.”

Shimadzu UV-2600 and UV-2700

The compact UV-2600/2700 is a universal, research-grade spectrophotometer that can be used in a wide range of fields, and easily expanded to suit the measurement objective.

By using the optional integrating sphere, the measurement wavelength range of the UV-2600 can be extended to the near-infrared region of 1400 nm.

The UV-2700 is capable of 8-Abs measurements, and optimal for measuring low transmittance samples.

We have so many questions filling our forums that sometimes questions can be missed and go without answers. Can you help us provide answers for these users with unanswered questions?

Experience with BaseLine Chromtech Chromatography Data System?
I have an HP 5890 GC and an older Spectrphysics UV1000 HPLC detector with only 0-1 volt output.  I'm looking for an economical system to replace strip chart recorders.  The BaseLine Chromtech system that is sold on EBay seems to fit the bill at a good price.  Does anyone have any experience with this system? Advise this member.

Sideboard, Log Amplifier Mismatch Message
We have a 5975C MS. Recently, the computer crashed, we connected to another computer and reinstalled chemstation. On power up, the MS displays error 1048 while chemstation displays "sideboard, log amplifier mismatch". The source and Quad temperatures are not controllable but I confirmed that the source and quad heaters are working. Do we just have bad source and quad heater sensors or do we have a problem with the sideboard or mainboard.? I would be glad to have suggestions and advice. Advise this member.

Shimadzu XRD-6000
I'm M.Sc. student from Iran. Unfortunately the operator of device couldn't get data to obtain FWHM to calculate average particle size. He gave type file like .ORG .RSM .PK1.PKR .RBG but these file just open with XRD software. Could you help me please? Advise this member.
