Cell Disruption: Sonication vs. Homogenization

The preparation of samples for protein and nucleic acid analysis requires two essential steps: disruption of the tissue to release individual cells and lysis of those cells to release their cellular contents. Mechanical homogenization and sonication (sometimes referred to as ultrasonic homogenization) are two mainstay techniques for these processes.

Bruker 456 GC disconnects from computer during analysis
I have a Bruker 456 GC with a Scion TQMS.  There is also an 8400 autosampler on the GC and it's all controlled by MS Workstation 8.0.  I've been running this setup fine for the last 3 years and in the last few weeks the GC has been disconnecting from the computer about 15 minutes into the analysis.  It then reconnects and any analysis automation that was underway is halted.  This happened occasionally at first, and now it's occurring with every injection.  I've checked the power, firewall, and antivirus settings on the computer and I can't find anything that may be the culprit.  Any suggestions on other things to try to keep this from happening would be greatly appreciated.
