INSIGHTS on Cold Storage

If the voluminous patent filings for new compressors, refrigerants, insulation, and power management are any indication, refrigeration technology is one of the most-researched engineering topics affecting lab operations.

New Twists to Mature Technologies

Developers are constantly on the lookout for technologic tweaks that maximize efficiency, reliability, stability, and temperature uniformity while minimizing noise, energy consumption, and released heat.

In one popular ultralow-temperature freezer design, cascade refrigeration, units reach target temperatures in two stages. The first compressor lowers temperature to an intermediate level, at which point a second compressor takes it the rest of the way, for example to -86°C. Cascade compressors use different refrigerants.

A&D Weighing Ion Series

Weighing is at the heart of many laboratory processes and the Ion Series offers the features, performance and standard accessories to bring real convenience to your lab. With the six balances of the Ion Series, you can choose a capacity as high as 520 g or a microbalance with readability down to 1 ?g.

Z-SC1 Corp. ULT TWINCORE -86

TwinCore© Technology employ 2 optimized autocascade compressors. However it only requires one compressor to hold temperature up to -86.

Because it has two complete and separate refrigeration systems, unlike the leading brand competitor’s system, it has true backup and will maintain set point up to -86 at all-time and not only -60 for couple of hours. The second will act as a backup. Energy usage is also dramatically reduced.

We have a Mettler H54 that will not come into tolerance. Where do I get information on how to adjust and calibrate the scale? Advise this member.

Thermo Forma 4518 Orbital Shaker - Information
What is the dimension of this equipment and I am wondering how many 2L flasks it can hold? Advise this member.

Hewlett Packard 1090 - DAD not starting during a run
Having some problems with the DAD on a HP1090. In brief, when a sample is run, there are no signals saved from the DAD. I can see the trace on the screen and everything is moving as it should and everything says that the DAD is working fine. When a run starts however the DAD doesn't switch into "run" mode and stays as "pre-run". Does anyone have any suggestions how to get it to save the data? It used to work fine and one day it stopped and I've been given the task of fixing it. Advise this member.

Questions from the Vault

We have so many questions filling our forums that sometimes questions can be missed and go without answers. Can you help us provide answers for these users with unanswered questions?

Pharma Test PTWS 100D - Preventative maintenance
I need the preventative maintenance procedure for the Pharma Test PTWS 300/600/1200 dissolution apparatus. Advise this member.

Acculab VI-Series/VIR-Series - uL balance
The balance says uL, if I put my calibration weights of 200 gram, the balance goes nice to 0.00. However, if I want to calibrate it says error. Advise this member.

Stirling Ultracold ULT25N Shuttle - Calibrating early version
The manuals for the ULT25 and the newer ULT25N state that calibration is done using the potentiometer on the circuit board inside the unit. The unit I am currently trying to calibrate doesn't have a potentiometer on the circuit board. It is a very early model of the ULT25. Can anyone tell me the calibration procedure for early versions of this unit? Advise this member.
