Product Focus: Glove Boxes

As common as they are in industries ranging from biology to pharmaceuticals to semiconductors, glove boxes are unique among lab equipment in that they have not been “dumbed down.”

That, says Bob Applequist, product manager at Labconco (Kansas City, MO), is because of the nature of processes that go on inside, and the skills required to keep product and operator safe. “Glove boxes are hands-on devices. There’s no such thing as a glove box with pushbutton operation.” Users must be proficient not only in glove box operation and cleaning, but in the processes happening within the unit.

Erlab Captair Pyramid
Is the Captair pyramid appropriate for chemo preparation? We would like to use it at our facility for mitomycin c and methotrexate. Thanks.

Missing user manual
We are from University of Malaya, in Malaysia. We have bought this glove box through an agent here in Malaysia. The agent didn't provide us with a user manual for the unit. We want to attach Argon gas and run the unit using the automatic controller, but we are stranded now. Advise this member.

Sterilization method
Our lab purchased this chamber about a year ago from Coy Lab and we're trying to sterilize/clean it to avoid contamination to our cell culture lines. Is there a recommended way/method to sterilize this glove box?  Join in this discussion.

Questions from the Vault

We have so many questions filling our forums that sometimes questions can be missed and go without answers. Can you help us provide answers for these users with unanswered questions?

Connecting a Shimadzu rf detector to Galaxy software
No connection for installing a detector to read signal output of a detector. Need an a/d converter or other such device to connect to software. Currently only a ribbon cable with several serial connections is on the HPLC. No place for raw signal to be connected. Need a way to connect signal to software. Advise this member.

Heat-up times
Using the 100mL cell, aqueous solution. Oven set at 200C. Is the heat-up profile known, or can it be determined. The manual says it takes 9 minutes to reach equilibrium temperature however I am interested to know the exact temperatures in the cell as it warms up. Advise this member.
