Product Focus: Evaporators

Learning to use evaporation starts very early in chemistry. For students, the process takes a very simple approach, maybe just putting a solution in a beaker over a flame and waiting. That technique, though, doesn’t provide the sophistication, control, or throughput that advanced techniques require. Consequently, scientists can use dedicated evaporators.

Capturing the Required Control and Maintaining it Depends on the Right Platform and Care At the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s Chemical Genomics Center, analytical chemistry team leader William Leister needs throughput and flexibility in evaporation. For one thing, he uses a wide range of containers: test tubes of various sizes, in racks that hold different numbers of test tubes as well as 96-well plates. Consequently, he says that he needs an evaporator that provides “flexibility of rack configurations.” He adds, “For our needs, the ability to control each side of our evaporator independently is very important.”

Maximize results. Minimize space and energy usage

We see our largest bath with the smallest footprint; you’ll see more sample capacity. Maximize results and maintain sample integrity while minimizing space and energy usage with the Thermo Scientific™ VersaCool™ Refrigerated Circulating Bath. The control head and heating/cooling coils are mounted internally, increasing sample capacity (fit 2- 500mL Erlenmeyer beakers easily). This “headless” design allows users to fit more samples in the same footprint and creates a safer, easier to clean working area

Help your Colleagues

Plenty of discussions are happening on LabWrench all the time. We have many questions come in daily from users that are seeking advice from fellow users and lab professionals on LabWrench. Can you help any of these users find the answers they are looking for?

Beckman Coulter Delsa™Nano Series - Problem with flow cell
I have a lot of trouble filling my sample into the flow cell for zeta potential everytime. How can i get rid of airbubbles. Please help me out. I am wasting hours of time on this. Advise this member.

EPPENDORF Excella E5 - Power light flashing and beeping
I replaced both the main board and the power board. The problem persists. Anyone with any ideas as to what this can be caused by? Advise this member.

BUCHI Corporation Rotavapor® R-3 - Rotovap stuck
Does anyone know how to take apart a very old Brinkmann/Buchi -R series Rotovap? Sample foamed over the vapor duct into the condenser. Apparently, it worked its way into the worm drive that rotates the vapor duct. Now the vapor duct is stuck in place and will not rotate. The vapor duct temporarily rotated after some methanol rinse leaked down into the drive. But, now that the methanol evaporated, the drive is not rotating. Buchi will not provide any technical support, manuals, or parts for this old unit. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also, operator and service manual copies would be most helpful. Advise this member.

Questions from the Vault

We have so many questions filling our forums that sometimes questions can be missed and go without answers. Can you help us provide answers for these users with unanswered questions?

New Brunswick Scientific Innova 4300 - MAINT indicator
I was hoping someone here might know how to reset the MAINT indicator light on the Innova 4330? For the 4400 it is a simple key sequence/combination, but the 4300 references resetting the internal clock. Advise this member.

Fisher Scientific Isotemp 9100 - Not heating
I've got a Fisher Scientific 9100 in for repair at the moment- It's not engaging it's heating element. If I manually trigger triac Q4,it immediately blows the circuit breaker. Does anyone have service documents for this one? Thermofisher Australia have nothing relevant- Not even a user manual. Advise this member.

Forma Scientific 2006 Refrigerated Chiller Water Bath & Circulator
I have a model 2006 FS bath and circulator in my lab that works, but seems to have been forgotten about. We can't find the manual for it. Does anyone have this particular bath and the manual to go with it that may be able to send me a copy? Advise this member.
