Centrifuges: Smarter Spinning Saves Time and Money

Modern centrifuges offer many new features. Not surprisingly, dials gave way to digital panels. Beyond just adding convenience and accuracy, digitization brings enhanced capabilities. “Customers can create their own programs and save them,” says Matt Lieber, product manager at Centrifuges: Smarter Spinning Saves Time and Money

Many customers also look for sustainability in a new centrifuge, says Randall Lockner, marketing manager for centrifugation at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences (Indianapolis, IN). In general, sustainability means a more energy-efficient instrument. “Market pressure is driving manufacturers to make centrifuges that are quieter, use less energy, and incorporate recycled materials in manufacturing.”

UV-Vis-NIR, Raman and Fluorescence of Microscopic Samples

The 20/30 PV™ microspectrophotometer combines the latest technologies to allow the user to measure UV-visible-NIR absorbance, reflectance, Raman, emission and fluorescence spectra of sample areas smaller than a micron.  The thickness of thin films may also be determined.  And while microspectra™ are being acquired, the sample may be viewed with high-resolution digital imaging in the deep UV, in color or in the near infrared.

 Questions from the Vault

We have so many questions filling our forums that sometimes questions can be missed and go without answers. Can you help us provide answers for these users with unanswered questions?

Vivaspin 20: Is it Reusable?
I use Vivaspin 20 to ultrafiltrate my water samples. It's too expensive I don't want to throw it away after just one use. Is it reusable? Anyone know how to clean it? Can I wash it with Decon 90 or other alkaline detergents? Have no idea. Anyone can give me some help? Thanks a lot! Provide an answer

Vertical Lines on Screen
I have DR/4000 U spectrophotometer which has vertical lines on screen. can you please troubleshoot and guide me how to remove it from screen. Provide an answer

Varian CP-3800 - FID will not light
The FID will not light. We have been told by Agilent that it could be the flame tip or the ignitor. We were sent the manual showing the TSD, and told to try and light it by hand with a lighter to see which problem it may be. The issue for us is: our TSD has a very small glass flame tip shaped top where the manual shows the ceramin insulators and collector. Anyone know what that glass tip is, and if it should be removed? Provide an answer
