PerkinElmer Launches Innovative Sample Introduction Component for Optima® 8x00 Series of ICP-OES Spectrometers

New HybridXLT™ Torch improves Laboratory Productivity and Decreases Cost Per Analysis

WHAT:
PerkinElmer Inc., a global leader focused on the health and safety of people and the environment, today announced the launch of the HybridXLT™ torch, a new sample introduction component for its popular award-winning Optima® 8x00 ICP-OES series of spectrometers. The Optima 8x00 ICP-OES platform offers analysis of environmental, food, drug development, product safety and geochemical samples.

Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) is a highly sensitive, rapid technique for determining the elemental composition of a wide variety of sample types.   Sample matrices can often be complex (such as brines, metallurgy, geological), and labs need robust sample introduction technologies that can easily handle difficult samples. With its patent-pending design, the HybridXLT torch increases uptime of these spectrometers, enhances and facilitates method development, troubleshooting and maintenance, and reduces a laboratory’s cost of analysis.

“We created the HybridXLT in response to lab technicians’ needs for more efficient and cost-effective sample introduction components for their spectroscopy instruments,” said Jon DiVincenzo, President, Environmental Health, PerkinElmer. “Higher performance instruments and components result in improved productivity in the lab, which can more effectively lead to advancements in human and environmental health.”

HOW IT WORKS:
The HybridXLT utilizes a patent-pending ceramic/quartz hybrid design, which extends its lifetime by up to 10 times over that of standard quartz torches used in ICP-OES. The HybridXLT also allows for effective plasma viewing compared to full-ceramic designs, which are more expensive and difficult to use.
