Agilent Technologies Expands OpenLAB CDS for Chemical and Petrochemical Laboratories

New Sample Scheduler Simplifies Control of Multiple Chromatography Systems

Agilent Technologies Inc.  introduced Sample Scheduler for OpenLAB CDS, an addition to the company’s OpenLAB informatics portfolio designed to simplify sample management with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). The Sample Scheduler for OpenLAB CDS EZChrom Edition effectively provides master sequence control by integrating all laboratory chromatography systems into a single user interface..

“To boost productivity, petrochemical and chemical labs seek to reduce time-consuming, error-prone manual processes,” said Wayne Collins, Energy and Chemical marketing manager, Agilent. “Sample Scheduler gives labs the ability to streamline the analytical workflow using a master sequence to link LIMS to their CDS.”

A typical laboratory workflow involves numerous manual steps to transfer sample information and results between LIMS and chromatography data systems. By connecting an OpenLAB CDS system with any LIMS, the Sampler Scheduler eliminates these manual steps.

Samples entered into a LIMS automatically appear in the Sample Scheduler, where they can be submitted to any OpenLAB CDS-controlled chromatography system on the network for analysis. After acquisition, data is automatically exported back to the LIMS. Priority or ad-hoc samples can be added to the work list at any time. In this way, Sample Scheduler:

  •     increases sample throughput by automating the lab workflow;
  •     enhances the quality of results by reducing transcription errors; and
  •     optimizes instrument utilization through better workload distribution.

OpenLAB CDS is part of Agilent’s industry-leading OpenLAB suite of software products designed to capture, analyze and share scientific information throughout its lifecycle, across the laboratory and the enterprise.
