Ziath Releases Handheld Scanner for Sample Management On-The-Move
Ziath, the leading expert in sample tracking solutions for use in laboratories and biobanks, has today released the HandHeld. The intelligent device is the first on the market that is truly portable, providing users with the ability to immediately identify tubes and track samples when away from the lab. This includes manual picking from repositories, as well as effective recording when collecting samples in the field.

The new Ziath HandHeld scanner can be operated using one hand and incorporates a lightweight build and intuitive interface that’s easy enough for anyone in the lab to use. Its portable nature is perfect for a number of underserved applications, including the generation of multiple pick lists for accurate tube selection, vial checking to confirm your sample is what it says it is, and the ability to easily record samples in the field at the point of collection. Since the scanner is battery operated, users have the option to effortlessly enter data about specific samples as soon as they’re scanned – a feature that generally requires the scanner to be connected to a central computer system.

“Our unique handheld scanner represents an innovative breakthrough for scanning 2D barcoded tubes,” said David Anstee, Commercial Director at Ziath. “The single handed operation simplifies a number of everyday applications for users, including fast tube handling in cold storage facilities or safety hoods, to quickly storing samples in the field. Those customers that have beta-tested the new instrument are very excited about the flexibility it will offer and the time it will save them when searching for and collecting samples.”

The device is a unique addition to Ziath’s existing line of scanners, and as with all their products, customers will gain full access to support, troubleshooting and customisation where required for easy integration into existing workflows.

The Ziath HandHeld will be launched next week at SLAS 2016, January 23-27, San Diego Convention Centre. See the instrument at booth 846 with Ziath and their US partner BioSero.
