Mass Spectrometry (MS) is an analytical technique that is widely used in many fields; including clinical research, environmental analysis and forensic analysis.  This technique is applied by ionizing chemical compounds to create smaller charged molecular fragments, which can then be analyzed to measure the charge-to-mass ratio.  This information can provide scientists with the molecular weight of specific compounds as well as its structural characteristics and elemental composition.

MS is particularly useful as it reliable, highly sensitive and very accurate.  Another interesting feature of MS is that it can be used in conjunction with chromatograms in order to help with the identification of a particular substance within a given sample.  For example, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is considered the “gold standard” in the field of forensic science when it comes to substance identification.

With so many different applications covering many different fields, MS is one of the most useful instruments in the scientific community.  As such, it is crucial for researchers to stay current with the latest MS trends in order to maximize efficiency and accuracy in the lab.

GenTechScientific is an organization which provides the scientific community with refurbished analytical equipment in addition to reliable lab instrument service and repair. Futhermore, GenTech has expanded to offer their customers refurbished Mass Spectrometers, Gas Chromatographs, High Performance Liquid Chromatographs, Atomic Aborption and Inductively Coupled Plasma systems.

With the release of their new 7000A Triple Quadruople GC/MS/MS system, Agilent Technologies has demonstrated yet again that they are the leaders when it comes to mass spectrometry.  With an increased selectivity, sensitivity and shorter analysis cycles, the 7000A Triple Quadruople GC/MS/MS provides scientists with an opportunity to improve productivity as well as accuracy.
