Calcium chloride CaCl 2 , is a chemical compound that is crystalline, flaky, or it can have lumps. It is normally white, and is extremely soluble in water. It behaves as a typical ionic halide, and is solid at room temperature. This anhydrous compound is hygroscopic; it rapidly absorbs water and is used to dry gases by passing them through it.    
   
Calcium chloride solutions (60 mM and 200 mM) are sterile, concentrated solutions prepared with water.
