The chip contains on board pneumatic valves to toggle the fluids, performing all the chip functions.

In the demonstration chip, metering channels are designed to create a 4:1 dilution. Once metered, mixing is accomplished by moving the combined fluids back and forth between two chambers using a flexible diaphragm above each chamber to draw and push the fluid between the two chambers through a constriction. Finally, the mixture is moved through the debubbler, and dispensed into the detection zone.

The on-board pneumatic components are controlled off-board through the ADEPT instrument platform. A series of solenoid valves delivers the desired output to the on board pneumatics. Available outputs are pressure, vacuum, vent to Atmosphere, or closed. The ADEPT can be controlled manually or with a simple text file that is loaded using a microSD card.
