Features of CellASIC® PEARL Perfusion Liver System
32 fully independent perfusion units * Microfabricated environment mimics natural liver * Maintains liver-metabolic activity for 30+ days * Pump-free culture in a standard incubator * Automation compatible 96 well format * #1.5 glass bottom for high quality imaging
Long-term Function The bio-mimetic microfluidic environment leads isolated liver cells into behaving as they would in an intact organ. This allows hepatocytes to recover and maintain liver-specific functions in the Pearl array for over 30 days, including Phase I and II metabolic activity, morphological properties, induction/inhibtion potential, and drug dosage response.
Bio-mimetic Flow The presence of flow is fundamental to the function of the liver. The elaborate sinusoid network in the liver enables blood, xenobiotics, and virtually everything else in the body to be filtered by metabolically active hepatocytes. The flow-based culture of the Pearl array offers a superior alternative to existing static culture systems.
Automation Compatible The standard 96 well format and passive fluidics allow the Pearl array to be operated using existing automation equipment and assay methods. Easily scale from one to tens to hundreds of plates with minimal up-front investment.
