Applied BioPhysics (ABP) automates tissue culture research by measuring the impedance of mammalian cells cultured on small electrodes. They provide electric cell-substrate impedance sensing (ECIS) instruments, disposable cultureware and optional accessories designed to work with ECIS instruments.
The ECIS® line of instruments includes two different models that
range in performance and capability, the ECIS® Z and the ECIS® Z.

Features of ECIS
ECIS® (Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing) is a real-time, impedance-based method to study many of the activities of cells when grown in tissue culture. These include morphological changes, cell locomotion, and other behaviors directed by the cell’s cytoskeleton.
Using impedance data at multiple AC frequencies the ECIS® model calculates time course changes in: • The barrier function (permeability) of the cell layer • The degree of constricted flow of current under the cells • The cell membrane capacitanc
