The 1.7 µm Charged Surface Hybrid (CSH™) particle is Waters third generation hybrid particle technology. Based on Waters Ethylene Bridged Hybrid (BEH) particle technology, CSH particles incorporate a low level surface charge that improves sample loadability and peak asymmetry in low-ionic-strength mobile phases, while maintaining the mechanical and chemical stability inherent in the BEH particle technology.

The advantages of CSH Technology UPLC chromatography columns include:
  • Superior peak shape for basic compounds
  • Increased loading capacity
  • Rapid column equilibration after changing mobile-phase pH
  • Improved batch-to-batch reproducibility
  • Exceptional stability at low and high pH

CSH particle technology is also available in HPLC particle sizes (3.5 and 5 µm) in the XSelect™ family of HPLC columns, enabling seamless transfer between HPLC and UPLC® technology platforms.

Features of CSH (Charged Surface Hybrid) Technology
Improved Peak Shape of Basic Analytes  The CSH C18 column provides exceptional peak shape, particularly for basic compounds under low-pH, weak-ionic-strength mobile-phase conditions.    Improved Loading Capacity  CSH Technology provides exceptional loading capacity, particularly for basic compounds under low-pH, weak-ionic-strength mobile phase conditions. The increased and improved loadability possible with CSH Technology permits the separation, identification and quantitation of closely eluting impurities or degradants.    Selectivity for Methods Development  The CSH Technology fluoro-phenyl and phenyl phases offer the ability to retain polar analytes. Selectivity is manipulated through the use of pH, mobile-phase buffer strength, organic modifier and chromatography column choice.    UPLC to HPLC Method Transfer  The CSH Technology particles used in both ACQUITY UPLC and XBridge HPLC columns differ only in their particle size, enabling seamless methods transfer and the fastest route to an optimized LC method. CSH particles maximize efficiency, improve high-pH stability and improve chromatography column reliability for both UPLC and HPLC systems.
