High resolution 2-dimensional (heart-cutting) GC is a powerful yet cost effective means of solving matrix interference problems in complex samples. Analytes are separated on a GC column and then cut to a second column of different polarity. The extremely high chromatographic resolution of 2-D GC, when coupled with a quadrupole MSD, provides sensitivity and selectivity comparable to GC/MS/MS. The confirmation of THC in oral fluids is a good example. The high level of matrix interferences in oral fluids prevents the successful measurement of THC down to the required 0.5 ng/mL level using conventional techniques. With 2-D GC, THC is well resolved from the interferences.

Features of Oral Fluid Analysis Kit

  • Extends the utility of your reliable, cost effective, industry standard benchtop quadrupole MSD.
  • Includes Agilent’s state-of-the-art micro-volume Dean’s Switch and an integrated, air cooled cryotrap.
  • Dean’s Switch and columns are factory installed, leak tested, and verified using a derivitized THC standard.
  • When 2-D is not needed, it reverts to the same powerful MSD you have always used.
  • Air cooled trap gives increased sensitivity and selectivity for critical analyses.
  • Uses same hardware and software your lab is familiar with.
  • Supported by Agilent’s world class service organization.
  • Customer proven for challenging applications (see Literature Citations
SP1 7890-0285 provides GC hardware factory checkout for the analysis of derivatized THC in oral fluids. The GC makes use of a Capillary Flow Technology Deans switch and peak focuser to allow the 2-D analysis of derivatized THC in a complex oral fluid matrix.          SP1 option 7890-0285 includes the following installed hardware on the GC:

  • a peak focus device
  • columns for THC analysis
  • a CD containing the operator’s manual
  • factory check out
A 7890A GC (G3440A) with options 112 (inlet), 201 (MSD interface), 211 (FID), 309 (pneumatics control module), 888 (Deans switch), 002 or 003 (fast oven), and derivatized THC standard are required (order separately, not included in SP1 option). G3243A (performance turbo 5975C MSD), G3397A (vacuum gauge), GC autoinjector and tray, G1701EA (MSD Productivity ChemStation), 160-2635-5 (deactivated fused-silica tubing), and 5181-1273 (5 uL syringe) are strongly recommended.          The Oral Fluids Analysis Kit is not available as an upgrade kit for an existing GC/MS.
