Position Calibration Failure on Biomek 2000?

We have an old Biomek 2000 that refuses to calibrate position on the x,y axis. However, it returns to the correct positions when using the alignment probe on the worksurface. Any idea on how to fix this the "position calibrate" without calling for service?

The most common problem is the cables, the coating cracks over time and use. To determine if that is the problem you can remove the top cover and visually look at the cables. Be careful if you run your fingers along the cable, if it has frayed it will be sharp. Also, do NOT touch the encoder (shiny metal piece that runs behind the cable, it is sharp and if it gets damaged replacement is the only option.
