J-1 latch error on Beckman Avanti J-E

Operator gets J-1 latch error on attempt to start cycle: it latches properly when the Machine is powered up with the door already closed. It is after you open the door and attempt another run is when you see the error. Thanks in advance for any assistance that you may provide!!

There are small pieces of reflective tape on the eye bolts.  Make sure that they are intact and clean.  Their condition can impact the door latch sensors ability to register the latches condition.  Check that out and let me know.

Don,

Operator saw scratches and nicks on the surface of the reflective tape. Would this be enough to cause the latch error?

Thanks!

The short answer is yes but it all depends on where the scratches are and how bad the reflective tape is messed up. It's very easy to replace the tape but I have no idea what Beckman will charge for the two pieces of tape. More importantly, you need to figure out why the tape is getting scratched up. It was not something I saw very often while I was working in the field.

Eric, I forgot to ask, are you by any chance at Penn State University?

Yes Don. I started working for Mo Henry in 1985. Mo had told me that you went to work for Beckman.

Thanks!

Eric
