Lid gas spring

Don,

Did Beckman stay with the same gas spring through the life of these units? I just replaced mine with a new one and it doesn't seem any more supportive than the old one.

Yes, but it all depends on which replacement door spring piston you have.  The original version was about 1/2" in diameter with a solid black body.  The new version is a physically much larger with a large spring.  One of the new springs pretty much kept the lid up on its own but two is still the best way to go.

Jeff, I have to apologize.  I thought that you were talking about an LS counter and not the JiM centrifuge.  Sometimes happens with mobile devices.

Anyway, the gas springs are still the same.  Which end do you have attached to the door?Don

No problem Don. The barrel/cylinder/pressured end is attached to the door.

Try flipping it.  Sometimes it makes a difference.  Make sure both attachment knuckles are secure as well as all hinge screws.  They all usually got loose with usage and caused door issues.
