Cecil adept ce4100 pump

The pump serial no 150-311, is indicating error e53 - pump over pressure! The instrument would not purged, and when the purge button is depressed, it gives the error e53, and shuts down the pump. The pump would not run even when the run button is pressed. What could cause this, and how do I overcome this problem problem?

Over pressure alarm has been tripped. It is probably plugged or the alarm has been set too low.

Thank you to Bill Letter for providing this response to LabWrench

You may have to replace the alarm trigger (transducer).

Thank you to Bruce Neagle for providing this response to LabWrench

Dear Mr Ogundeyi,

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

You do not mention the upper and lower pressure limits to which you have set the pump.   As Bill has mentioned, you may have set the upper pressure limit at too low a value.

Please be aware that pump over pressure, may be also due to:-

  • The analytical or guard column being too ‘dirty’ or clogged with debris.
  • A blockage in the LC system tubing/mobile phase.  Is your mobile phase filer clean, should your mobile phase be filtered.
  • Too high a flow rate for the analytical and guard columns.
  • Inadequate degassing of the mobile phase.

Please check out the above points.

If you have any further queries, please contact me directly, and provide your full contact details.

Kind regards,

Thank you ALL!

The upper pressure limit has been reset to 30mpa, while the lower pressure has been reset to 0mpa. The last user must have adjusted the settings, making the pump to trip!
