The empty polyprep columns can be filled with any chromatography support with a bead size greater than 50 um.

This includes the variety of medias that Bio-Rad offers (eg. UNOsphere and Macro-Prep) as well as those from other vendors.  Proteins can be purified from tobacco leaves in many ways.  Poly-Prep columns filled with an ion exchange media such as UNOsphere Q would be a good first step to purifying proteins from such a source.  Further purification steps would depend on the unique characteristics of the protein(s) of interest and we recommend that you perform a thorough protocol and literature search first.

In a related side note: Bio-Rad was founded in the early 1950's by providing products such as the Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) and chromatography media (the Analytical Grade, "AG" resins) to purify associated compounds.

Thank you to Bio-Rad for providing this response to LabWrench
