Invalid set speed

When I turn on the centrifuge, it shows "Invalid Set Speed". It displays 79,299RPM, but I cannot over-write it. Now the door cannot be opened either. Your help is much appreciated.

In all of my years working on the Avant J-E I NEVER saw that particular error.  Your operator's manual tells you how to open the chamber door in the event of a problem that locks the door.  Having said that, it would appear that if you cannot clear the display at all that your system control board may be locked up.  Was a specific error code letter and number generated because I cannot find any reference to "INVALID SPEED SET" in my manual?  Are you able to get into the service diagnostic mode by punching in [ENTER] 411 which will dispaly all of the previously observed errors?  You can also try to open the chamber door by using the Clear Door Lock Timer code which is ]ENTER]822 and then hit the[CE] after the door unlatches.  Get back to me when you can.

Thanks Don. I turned on the centrifuge yesterday and was suprised that the error messange was gone! The machine is woking now. It is strange that the error did not go away when I turned on/off the machine several times that day. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help.

THe important thing is that your centrifuge is now working properly.  As I said, I never saw anything like that before I retired.

Hi Don,

The same error came back again.  Unfortunately, I cannot attach a picture here.  The Screen reads as the following: top line: 79,299RPM 00:00 64C, bottom line: Invalid Set Speed.

The problem is that I cannot clear the error.  I hope that you can help us one this.

Other than the nonsense reply you got from a spammer that I have reported to the site's admin, have you tried to perform the steps that I gave you in my original response? Not much else that I can add until you try those steps.

Thanks Don.  I tried the steps suggested in your previous post, but the machine would not allow me to input anything.

What, if anything, happens on the display if you manually spin the rotor or spindle?  The only other thing that I can come up with is if you look at the board behind the front cover where the EEPROM card plugs in, towards the bottom the board just to the right of one of the cable is a jumper J6 which is labelled as RESET.  I believe that if you remove the jumper, you create a RESET of the control board.  Right now the only thing that I can think of IS to reset the control board.  I'm really not sure if this will only temporarily fix the issue as before or create a more permanent fix.  Otherwise your only possible course of action is to call for service.  I have no idea where you are located and whether you call Beckman or a 3rd party service group matters not to me.  I retired from Beckman Coulter almost 7 years ago so I have no horse in the race as to who you call.  Once again, please let me know how it goes.

Thanks Don.  I was able to locate the J6 Jumper/RESET.  The two pins inside the jumper are not connected.  I cannot pull the Jumper out because it is fixed on the board.  Is there a way that I can send you a picture?  Should I stuck some metal things in to connect the two pins to reset?  Your advice is much appreciated.

When I opened the machine, I found that there was a service log book inside, which indicated that the control board was replaced in 2003 because of S7 error.
