observed temperatuter 10C higher than requested

My sample temperature is reading ( labeled actual) 10 C higher that the requested temp. Thermo couple placed in sample area reads requested temp. what is the problem. external temp sensor is not in contact with any heat source, just ambient room air. System will not acquire with this error- fatal error.
