substitute VIS lamp

The cost of the vis lamp assembily (517659) is now comparable to the rest of the machine. I am looking to find a substitute bulb that could be purchased for less, and go through the trouble of mounting it in the assembily. there is little informaion i have about it. it is 12V two pin tungsten halogen. and has a strange coil at the bottom. I dont even know the amperage. My current guess is that the alignment is required to get an even brightness across the apeture in the assembily. would anyone mind measuring the current as the bulb is powered on?
