Lid latching problems

The lid button works, and the lid can be lifted. But while the lid is lifted you can see the "deadbolt" mechanism moving back and forth on its own. This can be an issue when closing the lid. Today, while having the lid open for about 10 minutes, the deadbolt mechanism seems to have burned itself out. The lid will no longer latch when closed, so the centrifuge can not operate. I'm guessing a lid switch or lid switches are the issue. I am having a hard time getting access to the lid switches. I removed the control plate on the front of the unit, but the switches are behind a metal barrier. I removed all the screws from the housing, but the housing won't budge. It seems to be anchored somewhere near the front lower corners, but I can't figure it out. I don't see this model anywhere on this site. But if anyone has some ideas of what this issue could be, or how to get at the lid switches I would greatly appreciate it.
