Avanti J-30i No VFD display, start & stop buttons don't light up.

I have a Avanti J-30i, S/N JKY01F07. It powers up, but isn't functioning. No VFD display, start & stop buttons don't light up. Voltages on power board behind the front panel are correct. The power supply voltages on the control/display board are correct also. LED status indicators under display/control cover show no faults. The front and rear door sensor indicators are amber. Would seem to indicate display/control board problem. I do not have any schematics or service manual. Where do I start? Thanks.

The VFD's on the J30I series were never expected to last forever and since you have already checked the power supply voltages I would suspect that the display itself has finally failed OR that there is a problem between with the instrument control board that is preventing it from turning on. Either way, there is really not much that you can do about it short of calling for service from BCI or some other 3rd party service group but be prepared for sticker shock when you see the costs associated for either of those parts. And before I retired from BCI 11 years ago I had never actually seen one fail or even fail to power up and without the VFD turned on you obviously can't even see any error messages but your problem is most likely in the console itself. I even dug out my old paper service manual and could not find any mention of issues with the display at all. Don

Thanks for your input Don! This one has probably spun its last rotor. Tom

Before you do anything drastic, the problem may not be so dire after all. It almost sounds as if the control board is in a constant state of reset and that is keeping the unit from powering up fully. I will have to dig out the schematics and service notes again because I believe that there may have been something about this. Not a 100% sure but I will try to look it up later today as I have a very pressing personal issue going on right now so stand by on trashing it.

Hi Don, I have a Beckman J-HC with no display. Were you able to reset the previous J30i?
