Instrument won't boot up or connect to computer

Hello, I'm a graduate student, and our lab is equipped with a Bruker D8 Discover XRD. Some background information is that the instrument has not been used in about 5 years. From my understanding, the instrument must boot up with the ready and on light on. However, this is not the case for our instrument, as it displays all lights, including the busy and alarm lights. I've reached out to Bruker, but they will charge a significant amount to send someone to our school to inspect it. I am also unable to connect to the D8 tools software. Has anyone ever experienced this, and how did you approach this problem?
