replacing the central processing board

Has anyone replaced the central processing board on a Q5000 or similar instrument before? - Our central processing board likely failed recently and the quote for just the board is about $5,000. With travel and service engineer time the repair is quoted to be $15,000; too much for an academic budget, so I am considering attempting the repair myself. Any help will be appreciated.
