Biomek 2000 error w/ noise

Our Biomek 2000 which was working fine abruptly stopped moving correctly, and began making a loud noise.  The noise is similar to this video posted by another Biomek user on youtube:

Any ideas? Broken motor, belt, etc?

Which axis? Does it stop in the middle of the instrument or does it travel to the ends and then hits the hard stops?

It may be one of the cables if it is in the X or Y axis.

Also, does it travel at regular speeds before it stops or does it start moving fast and then fails?

It gives a "Motor stalled on axis Z" error when we try to run an actual program.  This is also when the noise starts.  It seems to be moving at fairly normal speed before this happens.

There also seems to be an intermittant nature to the problem ... was able to turn the machine off and on once and get it to work again, but then the problem cropped up again.

Here's a screenshot of the error that occurs when attempting to run a program:

The Z motor is driven with a belt. It is possible the belt has a bad section. You can remove the covers and have a look. Also, it might only need some lubrication on the Z lead screw if it is dry.
