ADC Boards and LC controlling card related problem

I recently installed GC Varian 3900 on PC with software Star Chromatographic workstation 6. When I proceede to, Setup ADC Board I/O Ports, System control shows message, "No ADC Boards are Installed at the specified addresses!". In message log system control shows that no LC controlling card is not installed. Is LC controlling card is necessary for operation of GC? How LC card, ADC boards and COMM ports are installed in windows 98?. Please let me know at zafarft@yahoo.co.in email id to rectify these problems and also how to setup and configuure COMM ports.
